What exactly is up with the silly and meaningless use of “Rockstar” and “Ninja” that is proliferating around the web? “Rockstar Developer”, “Rockstar Designer”, “CSS Ninja” etc. I know it’s a joke, but it’s also moronic.
Tell people what you do, and why you’re good — don’t pretend to be a musical genius or a silent assassin. You’re not. There was a time, pretty recently in fact, when we were all keen to “keep it real.” What the hell happened?
(Of course, if you actually are a rockstar or a ninja, then stop moonlighting as a web professional, you’re taking work from the rest of us!)

Hahaha, for real man, I totally agree. Just like that freelanceswitch website that is selling their books “Rockstar Freelancer” or “Wordpress Rockstar”. omg….

I just stumbled onto this website. I could not agree more! If you don’t play an instrument, you sure as hell aren’t a rockstar, and to claim otherwise is the height of douchebaggery.

LOL :) If you put it like that… Sounds kinda funny. We cant keep it realy all the time but over usage is a bit much. Buzzword is the order of the day.

Amen to this blog post! I bloomin’ hate it when I see people write ‘Rockstar Designer’ or the like on their sites. It doesn’t strike me as very professional.

hahaha, nice point of view!
Don’t people love to celebrate themselves, I guess that’s why some call themselves rockstars and ninjas. Oh, and because it sounds cool.
What a beautiful web site design btw. Not only nice and fresh looking, but also clean and solid. Hope you don’t mind that I just blogged about trying to build a similar graphic, it was just so inspiring :)

Brilliant Matt,
I HATE when I read job postings asking for a Web Rockstar or CSS Ninja. It makes me not take the post seriously
